Secure Alternative to Email

Maybe nowadays email doesn’t play an important role in the process of communication between people but it is worth knowing that there are good alternative and secure alternatives. One of them is PrivMX.

The process of PrivMX communication action is similar to a regular email address except that all messages are encrypted on the user’s side in the web browser, stored securely on the server and decrypted in the end user’s browser. Unauthorized persons can’t view the content of the message including the content and attachments. Even the PrivMX server admin.

PrivMX architecture was inspired and it’s based on solutions from TLS, IMAP, PGP, CONIKS (Key Transparency) and Bitcoin technologies. It uses secure algorithms such as AES, ECC, ECDH, SRP, PBKDF2, HMAC-SHA256 for secure communication. You can learn more about the entire PrivMX process here.

PrivMX addresses differ from regular email addresses by the conjunction in the address. Everyone knows what a regular email address looks like. In PrivMX address is ‘#’ instead of ‘@’, e.g. someone#prefix.ltd. However, this difference doesn’t interfere with the ability to send messages from PrivMX to standard email addresses. Message can also be protected with an access password, which you can set with the recipient using a different communication method. In this case, you will receive a standard email notification from the PrivMX server and after clicking the link in your email you will be redirected to a secure communication form. It is also possible to use a personal form that can be shared to receive messages securely and a secure contact form to e.g. a website.

sunless.cloud becomes with a PrivMX server. There are no tracking scripts on it and server-side logging is disabled except for errors. To create an account, send from contact form desired username (use a valid email address for verification). Accounts are set up manually so please be patient. In the return message, you will receive an email with a link to the page where you set your password.
